Business Trip Daze

Brad left Sunday afternoon and I seriously don't know how people get used to work travel and being apart from family. After we dropped Brad off at the hotel, we got home and it felt so empty and sad. Well, we've been trying to keep busy and have extra fun to distract us from missing daddy-o. So, we've built and slept in forts, made friendship bracelets...

perused the sports store (and purchased some soccer goodies for our camp next week)...

went to the park to enjoy the SUN!...

went to the beach with friends and again enjoyed the SUN!...

eaten chicken nuggets, corn dogs and berry cobbler, done hand stands, had a pajama day, played lots of computer games, watched several movies, went to our exercise group, play group and sewing group activities, and of course did lots of snuggling in the bed!

Little Man

June 12, 2015

We had so much fun today! Will has been working so hard to learn to read, so we played a fun sight word game. Then we met friends at a park for a few hours. Then we went to a school picnic with all of Julie's students. It was so fun to get to know some new moms and a broader age range of kids. We spent about 5 hours out side today and now we're sun-kissed and exhausted. I'm happy summer is finally here so we can enjoy the sun and our beautiful area!

Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park and Shasta Caverns

Friday night we got to our campsite at Manzanita Lake. We stopped in Redding at 5 Guys before hand so Brad built a fire for fun and we hung out until it started pouring on us.

Saturday we woke up and started our tour of Lassen. Here it is exactly 100 years after blowing up! On our drive through the park we saw a deer and a coyote. We also saw lots of chipmunks.

We drove around Mt. Lassen to get to the hydrothermal area known as Bumpass Hell. It was a 2 1\2 mile round trip that totally wiped us out between elevation and the surprising amount of sun.

Mt. Lassen and Lake Helen viewpoint on our hike.

We heard frogs croaking and found them soaking in a pool above the hydrothermal area.

During our hike we found different pine cone types and later asked a ranger to help us identify what trees they were from. Ruth and Will guessed Sugar Pines, but they were actually Western White Pines.

We saw a chipmunk scurry across the brittle ground near this bubbling, 200 degree water and wondered how it wasn't getting burned. The ranger told us that the water doesn't heat the ground too much so it only feels warm and doesn't burn the chipmunk's feet.

We got back to camp that afternoon and made eggs and potatoes. Claire was "making a fire," and Ruth and Will were climbing trees; they were at least 15 feet off the ground.

The next day we went to Shasta Lake

After our boat ride we got on a bus that took us up to the Shasta caverns

My attempt at capturing the kids with the stalactites was blinding. Brad got a much better shot at the end of the tour. In that last room of the caves we also saw a little bat flying above our heads!

Kidoodles

Today Ruth said she thought she looked like Emma Stone (from Spiderman) because she put on nice school clothes and did her hair. Then she said she was pretending our car ride was taking her to the train station to take her to science college.

There was some un-flushed TP sitting in the toilet today. Claire said she didn't want to go potty on top of the jellyfish.
Yesterday Will said he needed a belt to go with his boots so he could be a cowboy. He also asked if cowboys needed to know math, because he likes math but wants to be a cowboy too!

Claire is 3!

Claire! Ta-da! She's 3 and wild and wonderful. She loves to sing made up songs, but her current favorite to listen to is "Take me to Church." She loves being able to do things by herself including getting dressed and brushing her teeth. She loves bubble baths and being included in Will and Ruth's activities. She recently started requesting that I "teach [her] my numbers."  She still loves babies, probably more than ever, especially human and cat varieties. Her new favorite toys are Duplo blocks. She doesn't like to get her hair brushed and she doesn't like getting bossed around. She also doesn't like to be quiet. She is still a picky eater but much more willing to try new foods as long as they don't have sauce on them. Her favorite foods are any fruit and chicken nuggets. She wanted monster cupcakes today, so I made them out of brownie batter, sprinkles and candy.

Anderson's Came to Visit

Our good friends came to visit us from Idaho! It was so much fun. We met them up in Crescent City and visited the aquarium and Stout Grove.

On the way back home we all stopped in Fern Canyon.

The next day we went to the zoo and swimming in the hotel pool. And then the adults got to go on a date to sushi and bowling!

Hazel and Claire were so cute together. They're 6 months apart and new besties.
